2021 Champion

First Round & Final Round - Baker National GC (Medina, MN) Par 72

Chad Thomas wins the 38th Riggs Open and becomes the first-ever four-time champion as he shoots net even par for the 36 holes.  Craig Steen, Mike Winge and John Bevans tied for 2nd (+1 net), followed by the father-son duo of Chad & Cody Conzet, who tied for 5th (+2 net).

We were welcomed with beautiful weather for the 2021 Riggs Open.  The temps were in the mid-70's for the first round, so very comfortable compared to the low-90's that we had the four previous days!  The leader after the first round was John Bevans, who shot a gross score of 82 (-1 net).  Craig Steen had three birdies and shot a gross score of 78 (even par 72 net) to put him one stroke back.  Mike Winge shot 84 (+1 net), Mitch Johnsen 94 (+2 net), and Gary Nagle 82 (+3 net), which put all of them in a good position heading into the final round.

The final round featured great weather, as well, with temps in the low-80's, so a perfect day for the finale!  Chad Thomas was in the second-to-last group and shot an 82 to post even par in the clubhouse.  John Bevans, Mike Winge, and Crag Steen had battled it out in the last group and were very tight coming to 18.  Unfortunately, due to an error when loading handicaps to our scoring app, those three didn’t know Thomas had been doing so well...  So, when his score was posted, they knew they had some work to do!  On 18, it Steen parred (gross), Bevans bogeyed, and Winge double-bogeyed, which meant – for their net scores – they were all 1 stroke back of Thomas.  So, Thomas had the victory!  He had a great round as he parred the last 4 holes, and (see video below) made a long putt on the par-5 6th to save par and keep his momentum going!

Low gross for the tourney was Craig Steen, The "Chrissy Miller" Humanitarian award went to Scott Riggs, and Best-Dressed was Doug Borsch!
