The 27th annual "Riggs Open" was held at the beautiful "Links at Northfork" GC in Ramsey, MN. The Links-style course always seems to create good drama and a great tourney. As always, the tandem of Karen Riggs and Kristina Borsch were on hand and handled check-in, scorekeeping, etc. They continue to make the tourney a fun event! This year the weather was warm (near 90 degrees) for the First Round. Chad Thomas, Mike Winge, and Doug Borsch came out firing as the early leaders. Thomas (11 Hdcp shot an 83) was the leader after Rd 1 at -2. Doug Borsch (8 Hdcp shot 79) and Mike Winge (11 Hdcp shot an 82) were both 1 shot back at -1.
The Final Round featured the final group of Kurt Bursey (E), Doug Borsch (-1), Mike Winge (-1), & Chad Thomas (-2), and another hot and humid day. Making an early charge from the 2nd-to-last group was Tom Angelus as he shot a 45 on the front nine, which put him at +1 for the tourney at that point. He was right in the hunt all day, but triple-bogeys on 15 & 16 hurt as he finished with a respectable 92 (+2 for the tourney). The tourney all came down to the last group on the exciting 18th hole as Bursey, Winge, and Thomas were all neck-and-neck. Bursey's triple bogey put him at +4 for the tourney. So, that left Winge & Thomas. Thomas tapped in for bogey, so Winge needed to par. Mike 2-putted for par to give him his 2nd Riggs Open Title (1995)!
