15th Annual

First Round & Final Round - St. Croix National Golf Club (Somerset, WI) Par 72

The 15th Riggs Open Golf Tournament was held on August 7th and 8th, 1998 at St. Croix National Golf  Club   in  Somerset,  WI.  The field was the largest in Riggs Open history at 26 golfers!  Once again Karen & Kristina (along with some help from Dar Borsch and Bonnie Anderson) did a fine job of running the event!  St. Croix proved to be probably the most difficult Riggs Open venue ever - with lots of tight holes, and elevation changes.  The first round leader was Tony Weinzetl with an 85 (2 under),  TW Schlag (86), Tim Nelson (89), Mike Flom (86), Tom Angelus (90), and Brent Riggs (87) also started with good  first rounds.

The final round conditions included hot, humid weather.  The tournament came down to a two-man race between TW Schlag and Craig Steen .  Schlag shot a final round 83 to edge Steen , who carded a tournament  low 78, by 2 shots.  Schlag  finished at 3 under his handicap,  Steen finished at 1 under.  Chad Conzet  (+2), Mark Patterson (+2), and Tom Angelus (+5)  rounded out the top 5.
