The 2014 Riggs Open was held at two different courses this year - Shamrock GC and Hollydale GC.  This was the 31st annual RO, and we welcomed a few new faces - Jim Revis, Greg Kimball, and 2-time RO champ (’85, ’86), Mitch Johnsen!

The 31st RO started out with decent weather.  Temps were predicted to be in the 80’s, but stayed in the 70’s most of the day.  Gary Nagle (74, -5) and Craig Steen (76, -5) led the way after Day 1.  Gary’s 74 and Craig’s 76 will land on the Riggs Open record book for Top 10 Gross Scores!  Rounding out the top 5 were: Brent Riggs (86, -3), Chad Thomas (82, -2), and Mitch Johnsen (78, -2). 

Day 2 featured a much warmer day – temps in the low 90’s w/ high humidity.  Luckily, the players were off in the morning and were able to finish before the hottest part of the day.  Steen and Nagle were both neck-and-neck after the first 9 (Nagle 40, Steen 41).  But, a couple bad holes early in the back nine cost Steen a chance to stay in contention.  So, it all came down to whether Nagle could hold on to his big lead.  He shot 38 on the back 9 to finish at 78 (-1 Net for Rd 2), which gave him a tournament total of Net -6 and his 3rd Riggs Open title (1999, 2006)!  Mike Flom (93-90) and Craig Steen (76-86) tied for 2nd at Net Even par, Brent Riggs (86-94) was 4th at +2, and Chad Thomas (82-91) was 5th at +5.
