First Round & Final Round - Loggers Trail GC (Stillwater, MN) Par 72

Jim Reavis wins the 37th Riggs Open as he shoots a final round 90 (-1 net) to finish at a net score of Even par, giving him his second R.O. title (2018)! Scott Riggs and Doug Borsch tied for 2nd (+1 net), followed by Craig Steen (+3 net), Gary Nagle (+4) and Mark Patterson (+4), who rounded out the top 5.

Warm weather was a factor in the first round as temps were in the upper-80’s with a high dew point. Volunteers were there - Kristina, Kali & Piper Borsch along with Karen Riggs, Kirstin & Trinity Riggs, and Bob Riggs – to greet everyone and take pics, etc! Scott Riggs was the leader after Day 1 as he fired a gross score of 88 (-3 net). He had a four-shot lead over Nagle, Reavis and John Bevans (+1 net). Patterson had four birdies on the day! Low gross for day 1 was Patterson (78), Nagle (80), and Steen (81).

The final round was even warmer as everyone tried to stay cool in different ways. Scott had a 6-shot lead going in to the final 9, and still had a 4-shot lead as he headed to the 17th hole. 17 is a par-3 that was playing at 197 yards. Scott’s tee shot went to the right and found a bunker that left a long 2nd shot. His attempt came out of the bunker, but then rolled back in. This led to an 8 on the hole. So, Jim Reavis was now the leader by 1 as Jim and Scott headed to the par-4, 18th hole. They were both on the right-side of the 18th hole with their tee shots. Scott’s 2nd shot found the green – about 20 feet right of the hole. And, Jim’s approach shot went over the green – finding some fortune to stay on the walking path. Jim chipped on from there and two-putted for his bogey, which gave him a one-shot clubhouse lead (Even net) over Doug Borsch (+1 net). Scott had a birdie putt to win the tourney, but he pushed it a little to the right. His putt for par – to force a playoff with Jim – missed to the right, which meant Reavis was the winner!

Low gross for Round 2 was a tie between Patterson & Steen (76), and low gross for the tourney was Patterson (154, +10), followed by Steen (157, +13). The Chrissy Miller Humanitarian award went to John Bevans, and the Best-Dressed went to Brent Riggs!
