The first round of the 12th Annual Riggs Open Golf Tournament was held at The Links at Northfork . It was a beautiful day at "The Links", and everyone was in good spirits as we kicked off the 1995 Riggs Open. It was Mike Winge who took charge of the tourney early on, though. He fired a first round 90 (5 under his handicap). Not far behind was John Bevans , with an 84 (net 2 under), he always seems to be in the hunt. Jeremy Smith's 93 (EVEN) put him in third going into Sunday. It seemed like everybody enjoyed themselves, for the most part, and we had a good time in the clubhouse drinking a few beers after the round. Kristina Riggs did a great job with the camcorder, Mom Riggs helped out a lot, and we used Dan Bradley as the tournament announcer on the first tee.

Winge distanced himself from the field by the 9th hole. He went on to shoot the low gross score out of any of the competitors with an 86 (9 under his handciap, which put him at a record 14 under for the tournament). Pebble was having its club championship that same weekend, so the rough was "U.S. Open" long, and the greens were "Augusta" slick. Low scores would be tough to come by. Brent Riggs shot 88 to join Winge as the only two competitors to break 90. John Bevans (+2) finished alone in 2nd, and Kurt Bursey (+4) took 3rd. Brent Riggs (+5), Pete Riggs (+8), and Gary Nagle (+8) rounded out the top 5.
