1990

7th Annual

First Round - Shamrock Golf Club (Corcoran, MN) Par 72

Final Round - Hollydale Golf Club (Plymouth, MN) Par 71

The first round of the 7th Riggs Open Golf Tournament was held at Shamrock Golf Club. It was the first year that the tourney would be played over two days. The scores were quite low at Shamrock Golf Club on the first day. Kurt Bursey jumped out to the first round lead with a 76. Craig Steen shot an even par 72, which is the lowest round in Riggs Open history! Mike Flom (80), and Scott Riggs (81) , Mark Renstrom (95) also started out the1990 Riggs Open in fine fashion.

The tournament turned to Hollydale Golf Club for the final round. It was a day in which Kurt Bursey, and Brent Riggs really separated themselves from the field very quickly. They went back and forth as the tournament leader - and it all came down to the par 3 18th hole. They were tied for the lead, Brent was in the group just ahead of Kurt, and finished first with a 3 on the hole (it was a career round 78 for Brent - putting him at 11 under for the tournament). Kurt's tee shot ended up about 10 yards left of the green in the rough... his chip shot finished about 12 feet from the cup...... Kurt stepped up, with the entire gallery watching, and drained the left-to-right breaking putt to tie Brent at 11 under!!! Kurt would win the tournament a week later at the nine hole playoff vs. Brent at Sundance Golf Club. John Bevans (-2), Craig Steen (-1), and Mike Flom (-1) rounded out the top 5.
