35th Annual

First Round - Hollydale GC (Plymouth, MN) Par 71

Final Round - StoneRidge GC (Stillwater, MN) Par 72

Jim Reavis won in a playoff over John Bevans to win the 35th Riggs Open. This gave him his first RO title!  They were tied after 36 holes at -1.  Craig Steen (+1) finished in 3rd. Gary Nagle (+5) and Scott Riggs (+10) rounded out the top 5.

The first round was held at Hollydale GC in Plymouth, MN.  Temps were in the upper-80's, so a decent day for golf!  Jim Reavis was the leader after Day 1.  His round of 88 featured an incredible back-nine of 38 (net 26, -9 net on that side), which left him at -8 net for the day.  John Bevans shot an 80 gross (-3 net), Craig Steen 78 (-2), and Gary Nagle 75 (-2).

The final round was at StoneRidge GC in Stillwater, MN.  A beautiful course with excellent service!  Another warm day at almost 90 degrees.  Reavis kept his decent-size lead for most of the day until he came to the par-3 16th hole.  His tee shot came to rest in some of the brush to the right of the green and he couldn’t find the ball.  So, he took a drop and chipped on to the green, only to find the original ball a short time later.  But, it was too late, of course.  So, after his 8 on that hole, the last couple of holes got very interesting.  Reavis took a 6 on the par-4 18th, and Bevans had a 4 (see YouTube video below).  And, after all of the scoring tabulations were official, we had a tie and headed to a sudden-death playoff!

On the first playoff hole, Reavis was in good shape as he was lying 2 in front of the green – on the par-4, 1st hole and Bevans had gone OB on his second shot, so had chipped short of the green and was lying 4.  Reavis then skulled his chip over the green.  He got on the green from there and 2-putted for a 7, so Bevans had a putt for 6 that would have sent the playoff to another hole (see FB video below).  But, Bev’s 7-footer missed and Reavis had the title.
