30th Annual

Mike Flom

2013 Riggs Open Champion

First Round & Final Round - Willinger’s Golf Club (Northfield, MN) Par 72

The 30th Annual Riggs Open was held at beautiful Willinger’s Golf Club in Northfield, MN.  It is a former tree farm that has been transformed into one of the more beautiful courses in the Twin Cities area.

The first round was held on a warm day - around 89 degrees with high humidity! Scoring conditions were tough with the heat, humidity, and gusty winds. Mike Flom came out with a good round of 95 (-3) to take an early lead. Craig Steen shot 86 (+2) to stay right in the hunt, along with Kevin Kramm (87, +7), Sean Sinsabaugh (90, +4). 7 of the top 8 had not won a Riggs Open before.

The final round was also warm (in the low 90’s w/ high dewpoint) and featured gusty winds like the day before, as well. Mike Flom stayed consistent, which required someone from the rest of the field to put up a very good score to beat him. Craig Steen was able to hang with Mike after a front-nine 41, but a couple of bad holes on the back-nine derailed his chances. And, no one else was able to mount a charge as Flom shot 99 and wrapped up his second Riggs Open title (1993)!
