2023 Riggs Open Champion
Both Rounds @ Fox Hollow GC (Rogers, MN) - Par 72
Cody Conzet wins the 40th Riggs Open! He shot gross scores of 101-90, which gave him a Net Stableford point total of 71 points! Chad Conzet and Gary Nagle tied for 2nd at 69, Craig Steen was in fourth place at 67, and Topher Anderson & Bob Cheesman tied for 5th at 61 points.
Day 1 featured pleasant weather. 72 degrees for the high felt good (and, maybe even a little chilly) after it had been 99 degrees a couple of days earlier! 2023 is the year that we switched to a different system for determining the winner. We will now use a modified “Stableford” scoring system, which awards points for your score on each hole. Gary Nagle was the leader after day 1as he shot a 76 (gross), which was good for 37 points! Chad Conzet shot an 89 (gross) for 36 pts for 2nd after day 1. and Craig Steen shot an 81 for 34 pts to be in 3rd.
The final round had perfect weather at a sunny 78-degrees! The stage was set for a memorable final round. Craig Steen, (82) 33 & Gary Nagle, (81) 32 were right there at 69 (Nagle) and 67 (Steen) points. But, it all came down to a father-son battle between Chad and Cody Conzet! Cody played very well all day with excellent short-game shots and putts, which helped him shoot a 90. That was 11 shots better than his score the day before. It all came down to his dad, Chad, who had a bunker shot on 18 that would tie Cody’s score of 71 pts if he holed it. See the video below – he gave it a good run! But, the shot missed and Cody was the champion! It is Cody’s first Riggs Open title!
