First Round & Final Round: Whitebirch Golf Club (Breezy Point, MN) Par 72
Chad Thomas shoots 85-86 (net -3) for the weekend to win the 25th annual Riggs Open by 2 shots over Mark Renstrom.
The first round started among a few clouds and a few raindrops, but everyone was ready to roll! Chad Thomas started off hot and claimed the early lead. Mark Patterson shot a nice 75, which was good for 2nd place after Day 1. Craig Steen and Mike Winge were close behind, as well.
The final round had beautiful weather as we were blessed with temps in the 80's, sunshine, and the perfect "Breezy blue sky"! In the end, the tourney came down to the par-5 18th hole, where Chad needed par to win. With the gallery watching from the 18 green, he lined up his 3rd shot - a tough shot from the left rough and a tree in his backswing... Chad proceeded to stick the shot within a foot of the cup. His tap-in birdie gave him his 2nd Riggs Open title (2004)! Mark Renstrom was the runner-up. He played very well both days, and gave Chad a run by shooting 92-85 (-1). Mark Patterson finished in 3rd, and was low-gross with scores of 75-81 (-4).
