22nd Annual
2005
The 22nd annual Riggs Open was very unique. 27 holes (a Riggs Open first) of Championship Golf were played on Sunday, August 14, 2005. It was a beautiful day at the gorgeous Fox Hollow Golf Club in Rogers, MN. Fox Hollow is well known for it’s 3rd hole (Par-3) that features a treacherous shot over the Crow River to a peninsula green. Most of the guys mastered the hole okay, but there were a few splashes in the river!
T.W. Schlag (40) & Jim Taylor (41) set the early pace by playing very well on the front 9. And, after 18 holes, Jim Taylor had a 78, and had stormed to the lead. Doug Borsch (76) was close behind, as was Mike Flom (83). So, we went to the final 9 with a great race!
Doug Borsch posted a nice 39 on the final 9, and waited to see what Jim Taylor would do. Jim was still playing well and needed a decent score on the final 27th hole to win the tourney, but he faltered a little and couldn’t put it away. It came down to Jim Taylor & Doug Borsch. As the final scores were being tallied, we learned a few lessons about rules and scoring. So, because they were so close, we had our first-ever Co-Champs, Doug Borsch (-8) & Jim Taylor (-8). Scott Riggs (-2) finished 3rd, Mike Flom (E) was 4th, and John Bevans (+1) rounded out the top 5.
