17th Annual

2000

First Round - Hollydale Golf Club (Plymouth, MN) Par 71

Final Round - Heritage Links Golf Club (Lakeville, MN) Par 71

The first round of the 17th Annual Riggs Open Golf Tournament was played at Hollydale Golf Club.  The Riggs Open committee wanted a bit of nostalgia involved in the  special "Millenium"  2000 Open - so the old favorite - Hollydale - was  selected as the site for  Saturday's round.  The field was by far  the largest ever in a Riggs Open at  39 players.  The number of  volunteers was also the largest ever with special contributions from  Kristina Riggs, Karen Riggs, Bob Riggs, Dan Bradley, Dar Borsch, Barb Smith, Sara Hirtzinger , Michelle Hummel , and Cindy Frerk.  A large group photo was taken, and everyone was in great spirits as the first of 10 groups  began teeing off.  John Bevans and Sean Sinsabaugh   caught fire on the front nine to take the early lead.  Bevans  shot a 38, while  Sinsabaugh went out in 39.  Both players played well  on the back nine also, and finished  the day with scores of 73.   They ended  up tied for the first round lead at 11 under their handicaps.  Bevans's highlight was that he set a new  tournament record with 6 birdies.   Sinsabaugh shot a 1 under par 34 on the back.  Kevin Johnson shot an 81, which put him just one stroke back at 10 under.  Jeremy Smith   (89), Mike Flom (78), and Jim  Taylor  (83) also had solid starts to the Millennium 2000 Riggs Open.

The final round was played at the blustery "British-Open" type conditions of Heritage Links Golf Club.  Wind gusts were the story for most of the day, which drove scores very high.  Kevin Johnson was not fazed by the wind, and went out in 45 (including a birdie at the tough 9th hole).   Sean Sinsabaugh closely pursued Kevin in search of his first Rig Open, but  "Johner" held off Sean with a par on the final hole for the victory!  Kevin finished with an 89 (which was 2 under his handicap for the day), and ended up  at 12 under for the tourney.  Sean finished alone in 2nd just two shots back at 10 under.  John Bevans finished alone in 3rd at 4 under.  Tony Weinzetl (- 3) & Dan Olson (-2) rounded out the top 5.
