First Round & Final Round - Stonebrooke Golf Club (Shakopee, MN) Par 71

The first round of the 14th Riggs Open Golf  Tournament was held at Stonebrooke Golf Club.  Brent Riggs was the clubhouse leader after the first round with a career round of 76 (10 under  his handicap!).  Brent's historic opening round started great right away on hole #1 with one of the best drives of his life.  He shot a 1 over par 36 on the front nine, including a birdie on the signature 8th (Ferry Boat) hole.    Mike Flom (82),   Sean Sinsabaugh (83), Kurt Bursey (83),  and Ed Ericksen (91) also started out the '97 Rig Open in fine fashion.

The final round was also at beautiful Stonebrooke Golf Club.  It  was a cool, sunny morning for the boys.  The final group on Sunday included:  Brent Riggs, Kurt Bursey, Mike Flom , and Ed Ericksen .  The pressure was  intense.  Brent had a 6 shot lead,  but he knew that Bursey and Flom  (& many others) would be gunning  for him.  Brent held off all of the competitors by shooting a final round 89 (putting him 7 under his  handicap) for his very first Riggs Open title!  It gave Brent the distinction of  being the first "Riggs" to win the Riggs Open!   Sean Sinsabaugh  finished  in 2nd (2 under), while Mike Flom (-1), John Bevans , Scott Riggs (+2), Steve Jensen   (+2), and Ed Ericksen  (+2) rounded out the top 5 in what will go down as one of the most memorable Riggs Open's ever.
